In an inspiring initiative to promote college and career readiness, 57 students from Vilseck High School's AVID program embarked on a field study trip to the Anglo-American University (AAU) in Prague. The enriching experience aimed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of university life and the opportunities available in higher education.

Accompanied by their teachers, the students toured the picturesque university grounds, including classrooms, the library, and common areas. This immersive experience allowed them to envision themselves in a college environment, fostering academic aspirations and preparedness.

A key highlight of the trip was the chance for students to attend and participate in classes of their choice, including humanities, business, and international relations. Humanities students participated in a 30-minute collaborative challenge focused on the theme of trust, which encouraged critical thinking and teamwork.

In addition to academic exposure, students received valuable information about the GI Bill, scholarships, tuition, and other higher education expenses. They also participated in a virtual tour of the university dormitory, gaining insight into student living arrangements.

The visit also included lunch in the college cafeteria, where students had the opportunity to interact with professors, university staff, and current alumni. These interactions provided a unique perspective on university life and the diverse paths available after high school.

David Nichols, AVID coordinator at Vilseck High School, emphasized the importance of these trips in helping students make informed decisions about their future education.

"This visit to AAU is a crucial step in our mission to promote a college-going culture. By experiencing university life firsthand, our students are better equipped to set and achieve their academic and career goals," Nichols said.

The trip aligns with the AVID College and Career Indicators (CCI) goals, which promote a culture of college and career readiness through enrichment activities, internships, community service, and service learning. It also supports goals for students to attend college fairs, campus visits, and other college and career readiness events.

As the students returned to Vilseck High School, they carried with them not only memories of a beautiful city but also a renewed sense of purpose and motivation to pursue higher education. This field study trip to Prague has left a lasting impact on their academic journeys.
